James R. Whitney

Suquamish resident James Ronald Whitney died March 12. He was 68.
He was born Jan. 9, 1937, to Myron and Eleanor (Drummond) Whitney in Wenatchee.
He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1955, then entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served until 1961, earning the rank of sergeant.
He then worked for the Pacific Maritime Association.
Whitney enjoyed hunting, fishing, football, sports and family get-togethers with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Rebecca Whitney of Suquamish; sons James Whitney Jr. of Port Orchard and Sam and Allen Whitney, both of Suquamish; daughters Cathy Hopper of Poulsbo, Theresa Hagerman of Bremerton and Stacey Hoose of St. Mary’s, Ga.; brothers Gerry and Terry Whitney, both of Poulsbo and Donald Whitney of Omak; sisters Donna Jolin of Las Vegas, Nev., Beverly Kraft of Kingston; and 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. March 19 at Kingston Christian Church. Cremation will be at Cherry Grove, Poulsbo.
