Othmar Alexius Obergottsberger

Bainbridge Island resident, Othmar Alexius Obergottsberger, age 74, died Dec. 12 at Belmont Terrace Nursing home in Bremerton.

He was born Feb. 1, 1930, in Obern-on-Inn, Austria to Franz and Therese (Meyer) Obergottsberger.

“Obie” earned a Juris Doctorate at the University of Vienna in 1953 and minored in music and art.

He came to Bainbridge Island in 1955 and worked at People’s National Bank in Seattle.

Later he worked at American Marine Bank with his brother-in-law, Lou Goller. Starting as a loan officer, he retired as comptroller and senior vice president. He retired in 1995 after 22 years of service.

He enjoyed the outdoors where he could hike, camp, garden, hunt mushrooms or travel. He was a stamp collector, rock collector and poet. One book of his poetry was published in Germany, and another will be published posthumously.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie, Bainbridge Island; two sons, Mark, Bainbridge Island; Michael, Ferndale; two daughters, Linda Hoffmeister, Silverdale; Therese Hoffstater, Sequim; three brothers, Hugo, Robert and Heintz, all of Austria; three sisters, Augosta Arns, Sweden; Lisl Wacherberger, Austria; Brigitti Dangl, Austria and eight grandchildren Nikki, Izzy, Andrea, Bryna, Becky, Anna, Kyler and Conner.

Mass was said Dec. 16 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, with burial at Port Blakely Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Kass Funeral Home.
