Doris J. Van Kirk

Longtime Bainbridge Island resident Doris J. Van Kirk, age 86, died Sept. 29 at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle.
She was born Oct. 21, 1917 in Great Falls, Mont., to James and Cecilia (Rhodes) Kennedy.
She graduated from the University of Washington and worked primarily as a freelance journalist. This suited her well since she loved foreign travel and spoke French, Spanish and German.
When she and her husband Van were not traveling around the world, they lived on their boat.
One sister, Pat Elder of Everett, and one brother, Donald J. Kennedy of Phoenix, Ariz., survive her.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home, Bainbridge Island.
