Darlene Nelson

Darlene Ameneatt Nelson, age 69, died July 10 at the home of her son, David, on Bainbridge Island.

She was born Feb. 22, 1935, in Juneau, AK to Dan and Ida (Towner) Kelly. She grew up in South Seattle, where she attended Foster High.

She married the love of her life, Dale Nelson, in 1952. They spent several memorable years in the San Juans with their children while Dale was an officer in charge of the Patos Island Lighthouse Station.

She worked for UFCW Local 1001 for 20 years and took early retirement in 1990. She recently moved to Mesa, Ariz., where she planned to live year-round to pursue her passion for golf.

She is survived by her daughter, Dawn Nelson, Monroe; son, David (Cheri) Nelson, Bainbridge Island; two granddaughters, Brandi and Shelby; several nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
