Brandenburg Catherine

Longtime Bainbridge Island resident, Catherine Brandenburg, age 84, died July 8 at Messenger House Care Center.

She was born Sept. 6, 1919, in Spokane, Wash., to John Edward and Margaret DeSailes (Flynn) Deegan.

She graduated from Holy Names Academy in Spokane where she earned her teacher’s certificate.

In addition to being an accomplished violinist and vocalist, she was a teacher’s aide to Marilyn Brandenburg at Wilkes Elementary School for seven years. She worked in the banking industry for National Bank of Commerce for 17 years in several administrative positions.

She is survived by her son, Richard (Shirley) Brandenburg, Mill Creek; one brother, George (Willie) Deegan, Hayden Lake, Ida. and two grandchildren, Jeff Brandenburg, Mt. Vernon, Wash., and Linda Brandenburg, Valdez, Alaska.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil Brandenburg.

A memorial will be held at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church at a later date.
