Speedy Spartans stay stellar at Chief Sealth track meet

SEATTLE – The Bainbridge High track & field team snagged a ton of top spots and set a slew of new personal records at the recent meet hosted by Chief Sealth on Thursday, April 19.

On the women’s side: Emma Brundige finished first (12.64, a new personal record) in the 100-meters and finished third (27.36) in the 200; Natalie Taylor and Zoe Lim finished fourth (1:07.16, a personal record) and fifth (1:09.38, a personal record), respectively, in the 400-meters; Hannah Tonsman set a new school record (2:25.51) and finished first in the 800-meters; Josephine Meier finished first (12:26:63, a personal record) in the 3200-meters; Elizabeth Messinger set a new school record (50.37) and took first in the 300-meter hurdles; the relay team of Capri Fain, Elana Dorsey, Morgan Dierickx and Sarah Salot finished third (55.81) in the 4×100 relay; Charlotte Bourgeois and Madeline Swietlik finished second and third, respectively, in the shot put and likewise did well in discus (Swietlik finished fourth, Bourgeois fifth); Brooke Taylor finished tied (with Seattle Prep’s Katherine Kessler) for third place in the high jump; Emma Chee claimed the top spot in the pole vault; and Emma Brundige finished first (17-09.00, a new personal record) in the long jump.

On the men’s side: In the 100-meter event, Andrew Frankie Owen finished fourth with a new personal record (11.99); Leander von Specht set a new personal record (23.78) and finished second in the 200-meters; two stellar Spartans, Carlo Ruggiero and Elliott Windrope, set new personal records in the 400-meters, finishing first (52.31) and fourth (56.32), respectively; Reuben Allen and Nathan McVay both set new personal records in the 800-meters, finishing fourth (2:14.05) and fifth (2:16.83), respectively; Sean Lindsey set a personal record (44.61) and finished second in the 300-meter hurdles, as did Casey Langsjoen (48.29) who finished fifth; Bainbridge teams took second and third in the 4×100 relay event (Joe Tabisola, Leander von Specht, Connor Sanford and Christian Nong Kingombe took second, with 46.62, and Andrew Frankie Owen, Ari Jabloner, Sean Lindsey and Pierre Visconti took third, with 46.87); Bainbridge cleaned up in the shot put event: Jacob Mathisen took first with a new personal record of 38-06.25, Nathan Eaton took second with a new personal record of 35-09.50, and Elliot Weaver took third with a new personal record of 35-08; BHS athletes took four of the five top spots in discus: Joe Tabisola (first, 119-01), Nathan Eaton (second) set a new personal record of 116-02, Jacob Mathisen took third with a new personal record of 100-06, and Jay Lollman took fifth with a new personal record of 79-09; Andrew Frankie Owen took fourth in the high jump event; and the top six spots were staked by Spartans in the pole vault event: Bo Baird (first), Hugh Fordyce (second), Elliott Lynch (third, a new personal record of 8-06.00), John Hunt (fourth), Joel Lafer (fifth) and Guy Weibel (sixth).

Participating schools included Chief Sealth, Franklin and Seattle Prep.
