Spartans win Metro title in girls gymnastics

SEATTLE — The Bainbridge Spartans were flipping fantastic as the girls gymnastics team won the King County Metro League 3A Championship title last week at West Seattle.

It was a big upset for Bainbridge, who entered the Metro championships as the third-place team behind undefeated Holy Names Academy (9-0) and second-place Ballard (9-4).

Bainbridge (8-2) avenged its two regular season league losses to Holy Names, the most recent just a month ago, with the win.

The Spartans finished first with a score of 172.375, while HNA was second with 165.425.

Ballard finished third (160.85), while Ingraham was fourth (148.55), and Roosevelt, fifth (135.45).

Bainbridge Spartans Coach Cindy Guy praised her team’s performance and said it was the best meet of the season. Bainbridge now advances to districts as the No. 1 seed.
