Spartans win in a LAX scorefest

BAINBRIDGE – The Bainbridge Spartans ripped Roosevelt 21-8 in girls varsity lacrosse last week.

It was the Spartans’ last lacrosse contest before Spring Break, and the Bainbridge offense again overwhelmed their overmatched opponents in the Metro League matchup at Bainbridge High’s Memorial Stadium.

Five Spartans scored in a contest that saw 28 shots on goal taken by BHS.

Mackenzie Chapman again led the way for Bainbridge and outscored the Rough Riders all by herself.

She finished with nine goals, three assists, two groundballs, nine draws and two caused turnovers.

Chapman now has 39 goals already this season.

Sophia Hagstromer added six goals and three assists.

Three other Spartans also participated in the point parade, with two goals each by Charlotte Alnwick, Kendall Havill and Maggie Sweeney.

Roosevelt got off 16 shots on goal, but Bainbridge goalie Thuy Ortiz stopped half of them for a save percentage of 50 percent.

Bainbridge improved to 6-0 with the win, while the Rough Riders dropped to 4-2.

The Spartans will return to the field after the holiday break on Tuesday, April 18 for a home game against Garfield.
