SEATTLE – The Bainbridge Spartans girls varsity gymnastics team won second place at last weekend’s Metro Championship Meet at Roosevelt.
BHS finished with 169.775 total points, just behind first-place Holy Names (170.20).
Spartans Coach Cindy Guy said the meet was a good one for the team.
“We are happy with our results. Came close!” Guy said.
Ballard came in third (169.30), with Roosevelt in fourth (154.075) and Ingraham in fifth (150.450).
With the fantastic finish at Metro, Bainbridge qualified as a team to compete at the District 2 Championship, starting Saturday, Feb. 10 at Sammamish High.
Bainbridge did best on the balance beam, with Mariko Ronan taking second place with a score of 9.050.
Alathea Pippinger tied for third at 8.7.
On vault, the Spartans had three top-10 finishers.
Karesse Pippinger was fifth (8.5), with Kati Cooper finishing in a tie for seventh (8.45) and Kegan Daniels also tying in 10th (8.35).
On uneven parallel bars, Cooper finished third for Bainbridge with a score of 9.1
Remi Rosencrans tied for sixth (8.6) and Ronan also finished in the top 10, in a ninth-place tie (7.75).
Ronan also earned sixth place on the floor exercise, with a score of 9.25. Cooper was seventh, with a score of 9.2.
In all-around scoring, Cooper placed second in the Metro Championship with 35.325 points. (The Metro all-around champ was Lianne Kistler of Ballard, with 36.625.)
Ronan was fourth in all-around scoring, with 34.25.
