Spartans stomped 2x at dual wrestling loss

SEATTLE – Against both Roosevelt and Ballard, the Bainbridge Spartans were bested at a recent dual wrestling match. The varsity island squad was defeated first 33-30 by the Rough Riders, then 33-28 by the Beavers.

Against Roosevelt, Bainbridge scored three forfeit wins (double forfeits negated three weight classes).

The Spartans notched just two wins: Garrett Swanson (113 pounds) pinned Rei Ichikawa (no time recorded) and 138-pounder Ben Dunscombe pinned Logan Murphy in 5:46.

Defeats were more plentiful: Matthew Chung (126) claimed an 8-2 decision against Indigo Weappa, Nathan Bears (145) pinned Doug Takada in 3:31, Daniel Bryson-Benne (152) won by forfeit, Jayden Slonkiker (170) pinned Clay Wren in 5:30, and both 182-pounder Quinn Williamson and Hendrick Schellings won by forfeit.

Against Ballard, BHS fared better — but not quite good enough. The Spartans claimed two forfeit wins, and double forfeits negated two brackets. The Beavers notched four forfeit wins.

Bainbridge finished with four wins: Hiram Topham (106 pounds) won a 6-4 decision against Kaleh Rogers, Ben Dunscombe (138) claimed a 9-2 decision against Riley McGinnis, Nate Michaels (170) a 16-9 decision against Eli Nicholson, and Clay Wren’s match against Ransom Miller ended in a BHS win, 19-3.

The Beavers bagged two wins: Isaiah Larking (113) pinned Garrett Swanson in 1:20, and Hugo Swongstu (120) won a 9-8 decision against Indigo Weappa.
