Spartans start season with a win in girls lacrosse

REDMOND – Bainbridge bust open the 2017 girls varsity lacrosse season with a lopsided 17-5 win over Lake Samm West last week at Redmond High School.

Scoring sensation Sophia Hagstromer paced the Spartans with six goals and three assists. She also had four groundballs and two caused turnovers.

The Spartans saw no shortage of offensive firepower.

Bainbridge’s other big offensive gun, Mackenzie Chapman, chipped in five goals and dished four assists. Chapman also scooped up three groundballs and finished with five draws and one caused turnover.

Fellow Spartan Maggie Sweeney also helped make it a long night for Lake Samm goalie Kristene Nickel. Sweeney scored four goals for Bainbridge (and also had a groundball and five draws in the contest).

Also adding to the Bainbridge offense: Eleanor Collins and Kendall Havill, who contributed one goal each.

Other Spartans who were outstanding in the field included Kiera Havill (one assist, five groundballs, two caused turnovers) and Taylor Tye (three groundballs, one draw).

Bainbridge goalie Thuy Hortiz blocked 12-of-17 of Lake Samm’s shots on goal to finish with a dozen saves.
