Spartans score shutout in baseball win against Lakeside

SEATTLE – James McMurray pitched a complete shutout as Bainbridge leapfrogged Lakeside to the top of the Metro League standings with a 4-0 victory at Magnusson Park in Seattle late last week.

The Spartans scored all of their runs with two outs in the bottom of the first as Garret Aichele got the offense going with an opposite field double. Brooks Wallace closed out the scoring with a bases-clearing, three-run double four batters later.

McMurray scattered six hits over seven innings and struck out eight batters.

Behind McMurray’s pitching was stellar defense, as the Spartans came away with a win despite matching their lowest run output in a Metro League game this year.

The game, originally scheduled to be played on the Spartan’s home field, instead was played at Lakeside’s home field due to the unplayable field conditions at Bainbridge Island.

Next up for the Spartans was Roosevelt, then Chief Sealth, as Bainbridge played through a set of five games last week.
