Spartans pound Bulldogs in six

SEATTLE – Bainbridge got back on the winning track with a convincing shutout of Garfield, the Metro League’s surprise team of the year, in a big 11-0 win late last week.

The Bulldogs were sitting at 5-1 coming into the game, but Bainbridge blew it open with six runs in the first inning.

Malia Peato took the mound for Bainbridge and had only one rough inning where she loaded the bases with one out on two singles and a walk. She escaped trouble, inducing two ground balls that resulted in a force at the plate and routine out to retire the side. Other than that, she allowed only one other base runner the entire game and struck out seven.

Bainbridge capitalized on seven Garfield errors, four in the first inning alone, to earn the lopsided win. The game ended in the sixth inning thanks to Bainbridge’s big lead and the 10-run rule.

Maddie Loverich led the Spartan offense with four hits, coming to the plate in the sixth a triple short of being the first Spartan in memory to hit for the cycle. While she didn’t get the cycle, she did have a perfect day at the plate with 4-for-4 batting, a home run, double, five RBIs and three runs.

Olivia Wikstrom was 2-for-4, with a double, two RBIs and two runs.

Abby Sullivan went 1-for-3 for the Spartans and had an RBI.
