Spartan XC stars shine at Salt Creek Invitational

PORT ANGELES – The Spartans hogged the spotlight at the recent Salt Creek Invitational cross country meet at Salt Creek Park in Port Angeles.

The meet saw runners in attendance from 15 teams, including Port Angeles, Interlake, Nathan Hale, Auburn, Granite Falls, Crosspoint, Cedar Park Christian, North Kitsap, Bremerton, Olympic, North Mason, Klahoya, Sequim and Forks.

The Bainbridge High varsity boys placed the highest among the Spartan squads: second place overall. The varsity girls claimed a third-place finish. The JV girls finished in first place, the JV boys in third.

Individual runners who finished in the top 10 of their respective races included:

Sebastian Belkin (second), Carlo Ruggiero (ninth) and Carter Hall (tenth) in the boys varsity event; Anna Scott (ninth) in the girls varsity event;

Eleanor Collins (second), Eva Entress (third), Cora Cole (fourth), Emily Glenn (seventh) and Emma Sellers (eighth) in the girls JV race; Sawyer Blair (tenth) in the boys JV race; and Jason Weiss (first) and Emma Brundige (second) and Eleanor King (ninth) in the open mens’ and women’s races, respectively.

According to BHS officials, there was “visible evidence of strong teamwork, confident racing, and effective pack running” at the event.
