Spartan wrestlers best Cleveland, fall to RB

The Bainbridge High varsity wrestling team defeated Cleveland 37-32 and was in turn bested by Rainier Beach 60-21 on the road Thursday, Dec. 13.

Match-wise, the mixed-bag outing left the Spartans with an overall season record of 4-2.

They next continued their run of away matches and tournaments, slated to again wrestle at home at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10 against Lakeside and Bishop Blanchet.

Against Cleveland the Spartans scored seven wins, four by forfeit.

On the mat, BHS’ Hiram Topham earned a 17-6 major decision victory in the 120-pound bracket; Indigo Weappa a 9-2 decision win in the 126-pound match; and Clayton Marsh (160-pounds) pinned Jeriah Hall-Brown in 1:10.

Against Rainier Beach, the Spartans scored four wins, none by forfeit.

Garrett Swanson (113) pinned Duy Nguyen in 2:53; Hiram Topham (120) earned a 17-15 decision win against John Agdarap; Indigo Weappa (126) pinned Idris Yusuf in 3:12; and Doug Takada (145) pinned Raven Inocencia in just 42 seconds.
