Seven Spartans named to All-Metro team

BAINBRIDGE – The Bainbridge High varsity baseball team had seven Spartans placed on the All-Metro League teams, including four players on the first team this year.

The first-team selections were Brooks Wallace (IF), Jack Niehaus (OF), Liam Hatakenaka (P) and Garrett Aichele (UTL).

The second-team selections were Brooks Lierle (IF), Mitch Kurtz (OF) and James McMurray (P).

Bainbridge placed the most players on the All-Metro first team, while Eastside Catholic had the most overall selections with eight.

Matthew Spence and Ethan Schulte of Bainbridge earned honorable mention recognition.

Hatakenaka, Aichele, Lierle, Kurtz, McMurray and Schulte will return to play for the Spartans next year.

Overall, the Spartans expect to return 14 of the 20 players that were on this year’s state tournament roster for the 2018 season.
