“On a chilly, blustery afternoon, the Spartan baseball team got down to business early. The squad scored five runs in the first inning, then relied on clutch pitching and tight defense to post a 7-2 road win at Olympic Friday.Cole Childers and Thomas Henshaw hit back to back singles to start Bainbridge’s fireworks, and Mike Dressler knocked them both home with a double to right. Zach Lieberman’s single drove Dressler home. Mateo Romero brought Lieberman in, then he advanced to second on an error and scored on Carl French’s double.Bainbridge starter Henshaw and reliever Ross McKinstry scattered seven hits, and pitched out of two bases-loaded jams. Offensively, Cole Childers and Carl French each had two hits, including a double, and Mike Dressler drove in two runs with a double. The top of the order was hitting for us, and the defense made the plays with two outs, coach Mike Reese said. It was an excellent game for us.The win moved Bainbridge to 8-2 in the Olympic League, 9-2 overall, and kept them one game behind North Kitsap, who the Spartans visited Tuesday. The JV team took a 9-8 thriller from Olympic’s JV to move its record to 9-2. Both teams were hitting well on the cold, windy afternoon, and were knotted at eight apiece going into the bottom of the last inning.Clayton Harrum singled for the Sparts, then stole two bases to put himself on third. He scored the winning run when Dustin Lownsberry laid down a perfect squeeze bunt. Steve Tawresey picked up the win in relief, recording two strikeouts in an inning and a third.”
