Island Little Leaguers advance to state

BAINBRIDGE – The Bainbridge Island Little League Intermediate baseball team recently won their second consecutive District 2 championship with a 9-1 victory over North Kitsap.

The Bainbridge 13-and-under All-Stars had beaten North Kitsap 2-1 and South Kitsap Western 22-4 to advance to the championship game.

Bainbridge got off to a solid start in the championship game, officials said, by scoring four runs in the first inning.

Pitcher Joey Hildebrandt then sealed the win throwing a complete game that included 19 strikeouts.

The Bainbridge teens moved on to the state tournament, which began Saturday, July 8 in Vancouver, Washington.

The team is led by Head Coach Chuck Cox, supported by assistant coaches Brian LaPlaca and Brian Russell.

The roster includes Eamon Greathouse, Shane Nash, Nick Grant, Aaron LaPlaca, Kevin Jarreau, Jackson Grinter Tommy Lockyear, Cooper Russell, Connor Sweeny, Joey Hildebrandt and Justin Marten.
