Gear Grinders snag podium spots at Roslyn race

ROSLYN – The Bainbridge Island mountain bike high school and middle school team’s third race of the season took place on May 20, in Roslyn, where the Gear Grinders competed against Washington Student Cycling League teams from across the state.

The Bainbridge High team’s series overall ranking is third out of 24 teams, and the middle school team’s series overall ranking is ninth out of 26.

Twenty-four high school and 26 middle school teams raced on the mountainous, muddy trails in the woods near Roslyn.

High school riders Cole Albee and Ezra Tweiten scored points for the high school team; Albee and Tweiten both won second place medals; Tweiten is now in first place overall, Duncan Rutherford is in fourth place overall and Albee is in third place overall in their race categories.

Also scoring points for the high school team were Olivia Cavalluzzi, Erin Thackeray and Duncan Rutherford.

High school team members also scoring individual points were Abe Muldrow, Nolan Joslin, Will Robertson, Edgar Flynn, Connor LaCroix, Martin Vroom, Tyler Pickett, Eamon Najlefski, Mickie Wilkinson, Thomas Schuler and Jake Webber.

The middle school team’s Will Siebert, T.J. North, Jackson Stoehr, Xin Munson and Milo McIntosh scored points.

Jackson Stoehr (fifth place), TJ North (third place), and Xin Munson (fifth place) were all on the winners’ platform with medals.

North and Siebert are in third and fourth place, respectively, in their categories in the series overall. Xin Munson is in fifth place overall in her category and Jackson Stoehr is in sixth place in the series overall.

Also scoring individual points for the middle school team were Payton McPhail, Ben Stone, Koen Fritzshe, Jasper Witten Carr, Logan Price, Cameron Cole, Gabe Phillips, Ian Brock and Cameron Albee.

The next WSCL race in the four race series will be in Wenatchee on Sunday, June 3.
