Football Friday: Spartans vs. Lions

Friday night’s Metro League matchup in varsity prep football pits the score-happy Spartans against the “death from above” Lions.

Bainbridge (2-2) comes into the game seeking its third win in a row, and boasting an offense that has scored more points (119) in four games this season than it did all of last year (106).

Lakeside (3-1) will bring the powerful passing attack that’s left the Lions perched atop the Metro League.

The Lions visit Bainbridge on the crest of a three-game win streak, with their most recent victory coming from a 9-0 blanking of Chief Sealth last week.

The high-flying Lion offense is powered by an air offense that’s averaging 253 yards per game (nearly twice the team’s rushing average of 139.5 yards per game).

Senior Max Knight (6’6, 190) leads Lakeside receivers, with 335 receiving yards and eight touchdowns (all in the first three games); followed by Adolphus Adams (senior, 6’2, 188), with 176 receiving yards and three touchdowns. (On the other side of the ball, Adams has a team-high 44 tackles this year; 20 solo.)

Quarterback AJ Allen (senior, 6’7, 225) has 13 passing touchdowns so far this season, with 1,022 total passing yards, and 72 completions on 131 attempts (four interceptions).

Allen has been averaging 255.5 passing yards a game. And last week against the Seahawks, he completed 15-of-28 for 244 yards in the only game this year where he didn’t toss for a touchdown.

Running back Jake Korman (senior, 6’0, 195) leads the Lions in rushing, with 436 total rushing yards this season.

He’s averaging 7.9 yards a carry, and last week finished with 108 yards against Chief Sealth.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Friday at BHS Memorial Stadium.
