Club announces tourney winners

BAINBRIDGE – Dave Webb and Bob Kennicott won first place in the Bainbridge Island Table Tennis Club’s recent summer doubles tournament.

Webb, known by many as the “Island Balladeer” for his guitar playing and singing at venues such as Kids Discovery Museum and the Bainbride Island Senior Center, showed his skills extend far beyond six strings.

Kennicott, his doubles teammate, is a former table tennis title-holder in singles play on Bainbridge and was a champion player at two colleges.

Kennicott has switched to doubles, he said, because he “can’t keep up with these young whippersnappers in singles anymore.”

Second place in the tournament went to Phil Hodge and Dave Anderson.

Mark Salvadalena and George Stege won third.

The Bainbridge Island Table Tennis Club meets three times a week: 11:30 a.m. Mondays; 7 p.m. Thursdays; and 9 a.m. Saturdays. Play lasts for three hours or until folks tire out.

All skills and ages are welcome, and players age from 8 to 88.

For those interested in stopping by, the club has extra bats. Play is usually in Huney Hall at the senior center; call 206-842-1616 to verify the location has not been temporarily changed.
