BIFC sees two State champ teams crowned

BAINBRIDGE – Two Bainbridge Island Football Club teams were recently crowned Washington State champions: the ’99 Boys and ‘07 Boys squads.

“We had two state champions crowned this past weekend,” said BIFC spokesman Ian McCallum. “Our ‘99 Boys and ‘07 Boys came home with the goods.”

The ‘99 Boys team consists of players from Bainbridge, Central Kitsap, North Kitsap and Port Townsend high schools. They defeated Crossfire in the semi-finals, 7-1, to advance to the championship game where they defeated Northshore 4-0.

BIFC’s younger ‘07 Boys team defeated Seattle United 2-1 in the semi-finals to advance to the championship game again Northshore.

“A hard-fought game with two great teams, saw the game go to double overtime, then to a penalty kick shootout with Bainbridge winning the game on the last kick to be taken,” McCallum said.

The video of this final kick can be seen on the Bainbridge Island Football Club Facebook page, he added.

BIFC’s ‘99 Boys are coached by Zach Conner, and the ‘07 Boys are coached by Ben Campbell and Walter Goodwin.
