BHS scores win in first of five consecutive games

BAINBRIDGE – The Bainbridge Spartans opened a stretch of five games in five days with a 9-5 victory over the Ballard Beavers last Monday.

The Bainbridge High varsity baseball team trailed 1-0 going into the bottom of the fifth, staying close in the game thanks to the pitching of Garrett Aichele and Liam Hatakenaka.

Then, BHS got on the board in the fifth, scoring three runs on only one hit, an RBI single by Mitch Kurtz.

The Spartans added six more runs in the sixth to seal the deal.

Ballard made a valiant attempt to rally in the seventh, scoring three runs before being closed out by Kurtz, who came in to finish the game on the mound.

Ian Matthews led the Spartan batsmen with three of the team’s nine hits, including a double and two runs batted in.

Kurtz also knocked in two runs on two base hits.
