BHS boys down in OT b-ball bust against NK

POULSBO – The Spartans were edged out in an overtime defeat in boys varsity basketball Saturday, Dec. 3, on the road against North Kitsap High in the island squad’s second game of the year.

The final score was 78-73.

“It was a great game,” said Bainbridge Head Coach Steve Haizlip. “Ethan Schulte hit a three-point shot with about 15 seconds left to put us up two points. NK then tied it with about eight seconds left on a difficult shot.

“We then had an opportunity to win it at the buzzer, but missed [and] then lost in overtime.”

BHS senior Brendan Burke was a Spartan scoring machine against NK, leading the team’s offensive efforts with 27 points.

Jack Barnes put up 17 through the game, and the speedy Schulte racked up 12.

Lyle Terry scored eight points and co-captain Charles Hoberg contributed five, while Dan Queen and Marcus Clyde each finished the night with two.

It was an exciting game, the coach said, and a good sign for the Spartans, coming as they were off of a disappointing debut against Bishop Blanchet the night before.

“Even though we did not get the W’s we are headed in the right direction,” Haizlip said. “The NK game was a great environment to play hoops.”
