Ballard wins in girls softball upset

SEATTLE – Ballard surprised the Spartans by beating Bainbridge 4-2 in girls varsity fastpitch softball Monday at Lower Woodland Park.

The Beavers ended the Spartans eight-game winning streak and gave Bainbridge its first league loss on the season with the comeback win.

The Spartans scored once in each of the first two innings, by stringing three singles together in each frame, but also left two runners on in each inning.

Ballard pitcher Lauren King effectively shut down the Spartans by allowing only two hits over the final five innings as Ballard chipped away at the early Spartan lead to eke out a taut 4-2 win.

Kensey Baker went 2-for-4 for the Spartans and had an RBI and a run.

Teammate Maddie Loverich went 2-for-3 and had a double.
