Ballard escapes with narrow win

Ballard eked out a one-point win as Bainbridge hosted gymnasts from Ballard, Nathan Hale, Shorecrest and Shorewood late last week at home.

The Beavers finished with 164 points, with the Spartans scoring 163.

Actually, the finish was even closer than that: Ballard won by 9/10ths of a point.

Nathan Hale was third with 145, followed by Shorewood (139) and Shorecrest (110).

Ballard edged BHS with first-place finishes in the vault and uneven parallel bards, and the Beavers also tied for second in both of those events.

On vault, Lianne Kistler of Ballard was first, with a score of 9.2. The Beavers’ Ava Alvord tied for second with Christina Warner of Shorewood; both scored 8.5 in the vault.

Keagan Daniels tied for fourth in the vault, with an 8.4, with Cosette LaChance of Ballard, and Ciona Antolin and Sophia Goodman of Nathan Hale.

Kati Cooper of BHS tied for second place on bars with a score of 8.1, with Ballard’s Celyn Stermer. Kistler won the event with a score of 8.5.

Bainbridge’s Mariko Ronan scored an 8 on bars, and tied with Alvord of Ballard.

Ronan won the balance beam event outright with a score of 8.9.

Bainbridge also claimed second and third in the event, thanks to Karena Klinkenberg’s score of 8.75 and Sydney Johnson’s score of 8.7.

Ronan was also first on floor exercise; she finished with a score of9.4. Johnson claimed fourth place in the event for BHS (9.2).

Ballard’s Kistler was the all-around champ in last Friday’s meet, and finished with an all-around total of 34.65.

Ronan was second with an all-around score of 34.6, while Johnson claimed third with 32.9.
