Bainbridge blasts NH for 50-14 football win

Bainbridge bumped up their overall varsity football season record to 3-2 Friday, Sept. 28 with a 50-14 win against Nathan Hale (1-4-1) on the road.

It was in the first half the Spartans shined especially bright, leading 20-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Max McLeod scored two touchdowns, one off a 44-yard run, the other from 55 yards. Gannon Winker managed an 81-yard run for a touchdown as well, and kicker Tanner Shattuck went 2-for-3 on point-after attempts.

A lopsided second quarter (24-6) saw the Spartans enter the second half up 44-6.

In the second, Winker put up one touchdown from a 1-yard run, with McLeod coming through for a two-point conversion. McLeod also scored on a 34-yard pass from Winker, and Jonah Giblin chipped in a TD off a 7-yard pass from Winker.

Shattuck went 2-for-2 in the second quarter.

The third quarter saw just one touchdown for Bainbridge — McLeod scored on a 38-yard pass from Winker — though they managed to keep Nathan Hale scoreless.

In the fourth it was BHS who went scoreless, while the Raiders put up eight points.

All said, Winker passed for 85 yards and rushed for 104.

McLeod easily passed the century mark, with 149 rushing yards.

Ryan Wilson carried for 29 yards; Charlie Hughes, 12; Allan Griffiths, eight; and Alex Ledbetter, four.

McLeod also lead the team’s receiving efforts (two receptions, 72 yards).

John Devlin was the Spartan star defensively, finishing the night with five tackles (three for lost yardage) and three assists.

Allan Griffiths also managed five tackles.

The Spartans stayed on the road this past week, playing Sedro-Woolley’s Homecoming game Friday, Oct. 5. They next play at home at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 against West Seattle (BHS’ Homecoming game).
