Boys and girls team coaches Bob Dwyer and Steve Nielsen are stepping down after successful tenures with the Bainbridge High School golf program.

In his final season with the Spartans, Dwyer led the boys team to the Metro and District titles, with a fourth-place state finish.

“We had a good run and they need a little change of pace,” Dwyer said. The team won the state title in 2005 and took second in state in 2004 and 2008.

Nielsen guided the girls team to a second-place finish in 2009. The squad finished fourth at the state tournament in 2008 and third this season.

Nielsen credits the team captains for the Spartans’ success. “Those people made the program,” he said.

New coaches will likely be hired by the end of the month, BHS Athletic Director Annette Duvall said.
