Track and field | Bainbridge advances six to state meet

The Spartans are sending six athletes to the 3A state meet in Tacoma Thursday-Saturday.

For the girls team, Pearl Terry qualified in the 400-meter, Isabel Ferguson advanced in the 800-meter and Emily Barreca will compete in the 3,200m.

The 4x400 relay of Sylvia Stellmacher, Annie Taylor, Terry and Ferguson placed fourth with a time of four minutes, 16 seconds.

Mark Smith is the only athlete from the boys team who will advance to state. Smith placed fourth in the high jump final (5-10).

Seniors Willie Wenzlau and Taylor just missed the cut for the 400m and the 800m, respectively. Wenzlau placed fifth in the 400m and Taylor took fifth behind Ferguson.

State qualifiers

400m: Pearl Terry 1:00.20, 3rd

800m: Isabel Ferguson 2:21.02, 4th

3200m: Emily Barreca 11:45.84, 4th

High jump: Mark Smith 5-10, 4th

Girls 4x400: Sylvia Stellmacher, Annie Taylor, Pearl Terry, Isabel Ferguson (Alternate Courtney Odell) 4:06.15, 4th
