Waterpolo

Bainbridge won its state tournament match Wednesday, and will play for fifth place at King County Aquatic Center Friday.

Hole-in-one

Ed Ellis shot an ace at Meadowmeer Golf and Country Club May 13, hitting a 6-iron drive into the cup at the 156-yard No. 8 hole.

Rowing

A total of 76 rowers from Bainbridge Island Rowing participated in 23 events over the course of the three-day regatta – almost twice as many rowers in almost twice as many events as last year – at U.S. Rowing’s NW Junior Regional Championships May 14-16 at Vancouver Lake.

BHS sophomore Deni Murray took the gold in the lightweight women’s single sculling event (1x), Murray covered the 2000-meter course in nine minutes, 9.52 seconds, several boat lengths ahead of competitors from Pocock Rowing Center and Orcas Island Rowing.

BHS senior Haley Allen (stroke) and freshman Ena Nimb (bow), women’s varsity 2x, took second in their Saturday morning heat, with a time of 8:23.41, and in Sunday morning’s much faster final, shaved more than 20 seconds off their heat time. They finished the final in 8:08.95 and took the bronze medal. All three medal winners in the event qualified for the Youth National Championship Regatta in Cincinnati in June.
