Girls basketball: Lande named All-Kitsap County Coach of the Year

The 2009-10 All-Kitsap County Girls Basketball Team was compiled by the sports writers for the Bainbridge Island Review, Bremerton Patriot, Central Kitsap Reporter, North Kitsap Herald and Port Orchard Independent.
Honorable mention: Hannah Depew (8.1 points per game); Kasondra Totura (8 ppg)
Coach of the Year: Terry Lande In his first year at the helm of the girls basketball program, Lande guided a young Spartan squad to the Sound Division title.
Lande succeeded Penny Gienger, who retired as Bainbridge’s winningest coach after an 18-year tenure. With only one returning starter – and five upperclassmen – the Spartans went 8-7 in conference play, closing out their league schedule with a five-game win streak.
“It’s a tribute to how hard the kids worked,” Lande said. “We certainly had an inexperienced group, but I think they really got as much out of their talent as they could. What they never stopped doing is playing as hard as they could play – that’s a tribute to the kids that we had.”
