Gymnastics

Bainbridge placed second at the Metro Championships Friday. The team scored 161.25 to Holy Names’ 163.25.

The Spartans, who won eight of the last nine league championships, did not advance to the district championships as a team.

Holy Names’ Katie Rock placed first all-around with 37.235.

Senior captain Katie Mathews placed third with a season-best 33.85. Adrienne Palay placed fifth with 32.05 and Talia Weiss finished sixth with 31.95.

“We beat Holy Names on vault and on floor and they beat us on the other two,” coach Cindy Guy said.

The Spartans scored 43.53 on the floor routines.

Seven Spartans will advance to the district championship in the individual competition.

Mathews, Weiss and Palay advanced in the all-around competition. Rachel Kaminer, Laura Bricklin, Grace Allen and Megan Duncan will compete in individual events.

Bainbridge will compete at 3:55 p.m. Feb. 13 at Sammamish High School.

Two all-around and 11 individual competition gymnasts will advance from the district meet to state.

Vault: Weiss 8.35 (tie-5th)

Bars: Mathews 7.1 (5th), Pallay 7.0 (6th)

Beam: Mathews 9.1 (2nd), Weiss 8.225 (6th)

Floor: Mathews 9.5 (2nd), Kaminer 9.3 (5th- season high)

All-around: Mathews 33.85 (3rd- season high), Pallay 32.05 (5th), Weiss 31.95 (6th)

Swimming

The Spartans’ 400-yard freestyle team set a new school record on the way to Bainbridge’s fourth-place finish in the Metro League Championship meet Saturday.

Bainbridge improved on the record set in 2009 – three minutes and 18 seconds – with a time of 3:17.43 at Madison Pool to win the event.

Bainbridge had three fist-place finishers in individual events. Colin Chupik finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.32, David Ortyn won the 100-yard butterfly (53.43) and Andrew McCarthy took first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:45.98).

O’Dea/Holy Names won the meet with 598 points. Lakeside took second (540), Seattle Prep third (392) and Bainbridge fourth (205).

The Spartans have recorded state-qualifying times in all events but diving and the 100-yard breaststroke.

400 freestyle relay: 1st (3:17.43)

Wrestling

The Spartans placed fifth in the Metro League Tournament and will advance eight wrestlers to the regional tournament Feb. 13.
