Spartans win state softball opener

Lindsay Willman tossed a no-hitter to lead Bainbridge to a 6-1 victory Friday morning over Kennedy in the 3A girls softball tournament at Sprinker Park in Tacoma.

Willman gave up an unearned run in the first inning when two-time state champion Kennedy (Burien) scored on a leadoff walk, an error and two groundouts.

The Spartans tied the score and then took command of the game in the fourth when Clara Dunn's two-run single spurred a four-run inning.

Hayley Baker had two singles to lead Bainbridge at the plate.

The Spartans (22-4) will play Union High of Camas, a 2-0 winner over Lynnwood, at 3 p.m. today in the 16-team, double-elimination tournament. If they win, they'll advance to the semifinals with a 9 a.m. game Saturday. They'll move into the loser's bracket if they lose to Union, playing again today at 7 p.m.
