The BHS Gymnastics Express roared past the century mark in winning consecutive regular-season meets on Tuesday evening and got a leg up on the next 100 victories.

With several new personal records established, the Spartans tallied 171 points – their highest mark in five years. Mercer Island was a distant second with 112.1, West Seattle had 68.5, Chief Sealth 35.8, and Center School 20.5.

Co-captains Annie Zuckerman and Kathleen Callahan led the personal-record parade, scoring 35.1 and 35.05 respectively in all-around tabulations. Coach Cindy Guy believes those marks are in the top 10 in 3A ranks thus far this year.

The meet also featured several team highlights, underscoring Guy’s assessment that this year’s edition is one of the deepest teams she’s ever had. The floor team score of 46.95 was a new school record.

“We had to throw out a 9.1,” Guy said. “That’s really bizarre.”

In addition, eight of 10 girls had no-fall beam routines to tie the school record, and the 38.25 mark in the bars was the highest in five years.

“We scored really well,” Guy added. “We’re really excited.”

With no meets until Jan. 16, Guy said that the team “will build on what we have. There’s still a lot of room for improvement.”

Callahan and Katie Mathews each placed first in two events, while Zuckerman won all-around by placing second in three individual competitions.
