Taylor qualifies for state meet
Bainbridge cross country runner Annie Taylor qualified for the state championships next Saturday in Pasco with her 19th place finish at the SeaKing District Meet on Thursday.
Taylor clocked a personal best 20 minutes, 13 seconds over the hilly 5-kilometer course at Seattle’s Lower Woodland Park, leading the girls’ team to a sixth-place finish with 182 points.
Coach Anne Howard Lindquist was pleased, noting that the team finished ahead of both Nathan Hale and Holy Names, both of whom had led the Spartans in the Metro League meet the previous week.
“It’s good when you beat quality teams,” she said. “It was a much improved strategic race from last week.”
Ryan Vogel led the boys, finishing 50th in 17:38.
The team finished 10th overall with 293 points.
Seattle Prep swept the team titles, with the girls scoring 34 points and the boys 43. Prep also had the winning runners in both events.
Drew O’Donoghue-McDonald won in 15:44 and Laura Sauvage won the girls race in 18:42.
Bellevue, Mercer Island and Blanchet also qualified both of their teams for the state meet.
