SEATTLE - It was a lousy night to be a Lion.

And especially sad for seniors from the Lakeside den.

Bainbridge upended rival Lakeside in girls varsity lacrosse Friday in Seattle as Kyra Wortley and Sallie Marx scored four goals apiece as the Spartans galloped to a 14-11 victory against the defending state champions.

The Spartans set the pace from the start to the finish.

Bainbridge jumped out to a 9-6 advantage in the first half, and matched the Lions goal-for-goal in the second.

Both teams scored five goals after the intermission, and Lakeside was unable to close the gap on Senior Night for the Lions.

It was an especially dour night for Lakeside senior Annabel Bench, who sat out with an ankle injury.

Wortley added two assists for the Spartans in the upset win, and finished with six points in the contest.

Paige Brigham came up big for Bainbridge, as well. She had three goals and three assists.

Teammate Sonia Olson also grabbed the Lions by the tail with three goals, a ground ball and a caused turnover.

McKenzie Scott finished with eight saves for Bainbridge.

Bainbridge improved to 7-2-2 with the victory and next faces Mercer Island (5-5-2) Wednesday, May 7 in a 7:45 p.m. start at Mercer Island High School.
