The week in Spartan sports

The Spartans will play their final home game of the regular season this week — weather permitting — in boys baseball.

Bainbridge will take on Chief Sealth on the school's diamonds Monday, May 5. The girls varsity softball game begins at 4 p.m., and the varsity baseball game also has a 4 p.m. start.

The Spartans water polo team also competes at home Monday against Newport. Action gets underway at the Bainbridge Island Aquatics Center at 4 p.m.

Also at home: the boys junior varsity soccer team. The Spartans will battle Seattle Prep in a match starting at Memorial Stadium at 6 p.m.

The Spartan tennis team begins the Metro Playoffs Monday at Chief Sealth International High School in Seattle, against O'Dea/Holy Names.

There will be plenty of Spartans on Chief Sealth's stomping grounds Monday.

The Bainbridge JV softball team will play the Seahawks at Chief Sealth, and the JV boys baseball team will battle Chief Sealth at the Southwest Athletic Complex.

Elsewhere Monday, the Spartan boys varsity soccer team heads to Magnuson Field in Seattle for a match against Seattle Prep.

The BHS boys lacrosse team also faces the Panthers Monday, at Montlake/Rogers Park.

On Tuesday, May 6, just two events are scheduled.

The Bainbridge "C" baseball team will play Sequim at BHS, and the JV boys lacrosse team welcomes Mercer Island to Bainbridge.

On Wednesday, May 7, the Spartan girls water polo team will challenge Bellevue at the Bainbridge Island Aquatics Center. Action gets underway at 4 p.m.

Also at home Wednesday: the boys varsity soccer team. BHS will play Lakeside at Memorial Stadium, with a 6 p.m. start.

The Spartan girls fastpitch team travels to Mount Si for a game against the Wildcats. The JV squad will also head to Snoqualmie for a Mount Si matchup.

The JV boys soccer team is also on the road, for a game against Lakeside in Seattle.

The girls lacrosse teams, both the JV and varsity, will play Mercer Island on the road Wednesday.

The Spartans play host to Eastside Catholic and Rainier Beach on Thursday in track and field at Memorial Stadium on Thursday, May 8. Events start at 3:30 p.m. in the last home meet of the season.

The JV girls lacrosse team is scheduled to play Thursday, as well, against Garfield at Magnuson Park.

On Friday, May 9, the Spartan girls water polo team is scheduled to play Newport (Bellevue) on the road.

Also Friday, the Spartan fastpitch team will host Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls). The game starts at 4 p.m.

The BHS boys varsity lacrosse will play Issaquah at Memorial Stadium. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, May 10, the busy week for the Spartan girls water polo comes to an end with a showdown at home against Enumclaw. The game starts at 4 p.m.

The Bainbridge boys lacrosse teams will travel to West Linn, Ore. for a tournament Saturday. Both the JV and varsity squads will compete.

Both teams will move on toe Lake Oswego for another lacrosse tournament on Sunday, May 11.
