This week in Spartan Sports
The Spartans face another rough week on the road.
All of the Bainbridge High teams — with the exception of gymnastics — will head to Seattle for competition this week.
The Bainbridge boys basketball teams started play Tuesday, Jan. 21 against the Raiders of Nathan Hale High.
The Raiders entered the game 3-6 in Metro League play (5-8 overall).
Bainbridge stood at 4-5 in the conference (8-6 overall) and is coming off losses to West Seattle and Seattle Prep late last week.
Nathan Hale is looking to rebound from two losses last week, as well, against Seattle Prep (75-39) and Franklin (70-60).
The Spartan girls travel to Nathan Hale on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The JV game starts at 5:15, followed by varsity play at 7 p.m.
The Raiders' record currently stands at 3-5 (4-8 overall), and Bainbridge is looking to rediscover its winning ways after last week's three-game skid against Bishop Blanchet, Seattle Prep and West Seattle.
The BHS basketball teams return to Seattle Friday for action against Holy Names Academy and O'Dea.
The girls play Holy Names, with a 5:15 p.m. JV start and 7:30 p.m. tipoff for varsity.
It will be a tough test for Bainbridge. The Cougars are 9-1 in Metro (13-1 overall) and are riding a 10-game win streak that stretches back to mid-December.
The Spartan boys will have their work cut out for them as well. They take the court Friday (JV at 5:15, varsity at 7 p.m.) against a 9-1 Irish squad (10-5 overall) that fell Monday to the undefeated Metro leaders, Rainier Beach, 83-62.
The Spartan swimmers return to action Friday, in a meet that starts at 3:30 p.m. against West Seattle at the Southwest Athletic Complex.
Also Friday, the Spartans host Holy Names at home in a bellwether meet in gymnastics. The meet starts at 6 p.m.
