This week in Spartan sports
The Spartans boys basketball team will face one of its toughest tests of the season this week, as Bainbridge travels to Sammamish to play the Crusaders of Eastside Catholic on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
The Crusaders currently hold the top spot in the Metro League's Mountain Division, with a 5-1 conference record (8-2 overall).
The Spartans are second in the Metro Sound (2-2 in conference play, 6-3 overall) behind division leaders Rainier Beach (5-0, 9-0).
The Bainbridge boys varsity basketball game begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The tipoff for the junior varsity game, also against Eastside Catholic on the road, is at 5:15 p.m.
Also Tuesday, the Spartan wrestlers welcome O'Dea to Paski Gymnasium. The home varsity meet starts at 6:30 p.m.
The BHS girls basketball teams will head to Eastside Catholic on Wednesday, Jan. 8 for a Metro matchup.
The Crusaders are currently 3-4 in Metro play (3-5 overall), while the Spartans come in even on the season (2-2 conference, 3-3 overall).
Tip-off for the varsity game is 7:30 p.m.; the JV game starts at 5:45 p.m.
The Spartan wrestlers hit the road Thursday for a varsity match against Lakeside, Bishop Blanchet and Chief Sealth at Chief Sealth High in Seattle on Jan. 9.
Round 1 will feature Bishop Blanchet against Lakeside, and Chief Sealth against Bainbridge. In Round 2, the Spartans will battle Bishop Blanchet and Chief Sealth will square off against Lakeside. The meet begins at 6 p.m.
The BHS basketball teams return home for another double-header on Friday, Jan. 10.
The Spartans will end their week easier than they started it by playing Ingraham.
The girls varsity game begins at 6:15 p.m. The Rams are 1-4 in Metro play (2-7 overall).
The boys varsity game follows at 8 p.m., and Ingraham (0-5, 2-8 overall) is still looking for its first conference win.
The boys JV hoops game against Ingraham has been set for 3:15 p.m. The Spartan C team will also host the Rams at 3:15 p.m., in the Commodore gym.
The girls JV basketball game against Ingraham is scheduled for 4:45 p.m.
Also Friday, the Spartans will compete in away meets in gymnastics and boys swimming.
The BHS swim team goes against Lakeside ad Helen Madison Pool in Seattle, with the meet starting at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 10.
The Spartan gymnastics team will compete against Chief Sealth at Nathan Hale High, with the meet starting at 4 p.m. Jan. 10.
Bainbridge also has two invitationals on the sports schedule for this week.
Some Spartan swimmers will compete in the 2014 Kentridge Invitational Swim Meet at the King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way. The meet will feature approximately 32 teams from around Washington, and starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11.
Wrestlers from throughout the region will descend on Bainbridge High for the 31st Island Invitational, which starts at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 in Paski Gymnasium.
