Spartans take third at San Diego hoops tournament

The Bainbridge Spartans boys basketball team won third place in the Slam Division of the San Diego Surf & Slam Tournament with a 59-55 win over University City (Calif.) on Monday.

Earlier in the tournament, Bainbridge drubbed Yosemite 70-15 but fell to West Jordan (Utah), 55-54.

The Spartans resume Metro League play later this week against Rainier Beach.

Bainbridge will host the Vikings at home Friday, Jan. 3.

It will be a full day of basketball for the Spartans. The girls junior varsity game against Rainier Beach begins at 3:15 p.m., and the boys JV squad starts play against the Vikings at 4:45 p.m.

The girls varsity team will square off against Rainier Beach at 6:15 p.m., with the boys varsity game scheduled to tip off at 8 p.m.
