BAINBRIDGE ISLAND AQUATICS CENTER - The Bainbridge High boys water polo team remained undefeated in league play after an epic week which saw them dominating in three separate games both at home and away.

The Spartan record stands at 8-0 in league play and 13-4 overall, an outstanding achievement which has clinched for them the league championship and solidified their spot at this year’s state tournament.

“The team itself has coalesced to the point where I can rotate four guys off the bench at any point and the players in the water will continue to play at a high level,” said Spartan Head Coach Jacob Millican.

“They support each other in the water and continue to crisply execute their movement-oriented style offense, no matter how physical their opponents get,” he said.

The Spartans won big on the road against Gig Harbor Tuesday, Oct. 22 with a final score of 16-9, then again against Lakes High with a score of 12-10.

Bainbridge brought the action home Saturday, Oct. 26 and won their final home game of the season against Wilson High by a commanding lead. The final score was 17-5 BHS.

“Perhaps the biggest tangible achievement for this group is now consistently scoring more than 50 percent of their power plays while holding their opponents to less than 25 percent of theirs,” Millican said. “Not bad for a team that has drawn 99 exclusion fouls so far this year.”

The Spartans will play their final game of the season on the road. They were scheduled to play at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 against Rogers High.

The state tournament is slated to take place on Nov. 13, 15 and 16 at Curtis High.
