Bainbridge's Frickleton honored as Lyon Athlete of Week
It was a killer first week for former Spartan volleyball standout Katarina "Kat" Frickleton.
Frickleton, a freshman, stepped into the middle hitter position on the Lyon College volleyball team — replacing a dominating front-line senior who had graduated — and took charge of the Scots’ front line.
The result? Great Scot!
In four matches, Frickleton played in 15 sets and posted 34 kills while tallying eight digs, 12 total blocks and 16 service aces.
The impressive play earned Frickleton — a 5-foot-11 true freshman — recognition as the Lyon College "Scot of the Week."
The honors came after Frickleton posted a hitting percentage of .313 in addition to her 34 kills in contests played on Aug. 26-Sept. 1.
"Scot of the Week" is a weekly honor presented to an outstanding Lyon athlete throughout the year and is based on leadership, as well as statistical production, according to the college.
Frickleton posted a weekly high of 14 kills in a tough 3-2 loss to Centenary College on Aug. 30. She also was in double-figure kills on the following day with 10 in a victory over LeTourneau University.
The freshman also tallied four blocks in single matches twice, once against Philander Smith College (a .471 hitting percentage in a 3-1 Lyon win) during the Hendrix College Labor Day Invitational and then again against the LeTourneau Yellow Jackets. She helped Lyon to a 2-2 week overall.
Through six matches this season Frickleton has amassed 44 kills, while also adding 12 service aces, 16 total blocks, 12 digs and two assists. She also owns a .314 attack percentage.
Frickleton was a four-year varsity volleyball player at Bainbridge High and was captain of the Spartan squad her senior season.
At BHS, she earned All-Metro League Honorable Mention honors in her junior and senior seasons.
She also played eight years of club volleyball, and helped her team to a 13th-place finish at Nationals in the American Division in the U-18 league.
