Phil Hodge is Bainbridge Island's new table tennis champion.

Hodge took the title Saturday in the table tennis tournament at Waterfront Park.

Dale Spoor came in second.

The tourney, held in a triple elimination format, was sponsored by the Bainbridge Island Senior Center and the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District.

Twelve players — four women and eight men — ranging in age from 30 to over 80 competed.

Organizers said the new format for the tournament was well-received and gave everyone the chance to play more matches.
