Gear Grinders take third in statewide race

The Gear Grinders, Bainbridge Island’s high school-level mountain bike team, rolled to a third-place finish in the year’s first statewide race at Fort Steilacoom.

The race on Sunday, April 7 was run by the Washington Student League, a program of Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance. The Spartans’ returning riders — Lydia Weyand, Soren Ferguson, Anika Vroom, Dylan Karter and Kieran Patrick — all had strong rides with Vroom finishing third in her race.

New riders Lucas Weyand, Edward Wilson and Albert Ragsdale also had great races, with Weyand finishing first in his race.
