Girls edged by Rainier Beach
June 9, 2008 · Updated 7:54 PM
The girls basketball team lost 40-39 to second-ranked Rainier Beach on
Saturday in the District 2 tournament. Morgan Zajonc tied the game at 39-39
on a trey from the right corner with 15 seconds left, but Rainier Beach sank
a free throw three seconds later to take a one-point lead. Bainbridge called
time out to set up a play. Tight Viking defensive pressure kept the Spartans
from getting a good look at the hoop and a shot with two seconds left missed
badly.
Zajonc scored 12 points - all in the second half - to lead Bainbridge
scoring. Alice Russell had eight.
The Spartans face Blanchet in a loser-out game on Tuesday at Bellevue
Community College. Tipoff time is 4:45.
A full report on Saturday's game will appear in Wednesday's Review.
