"Several outstanding performances by Spartan tracksters in the face of horrible weather highlighted Thursday's three-way meet against visiting Olympic and Port Townsend. The meet began under overcast skies, which cast a chilling, drenching rain over the competitors about halfway through the meet. But the sun emerged as the final relays began, creating a rainbow to the east that framed the final few finishes. The boys scored 81 points to Pt. Townsend's 54 and Olympic's 40. The girls beat Olympic 85-68 with Pt. Townsend third with 33 points.Rebecca Ivey won the 400 in sixty-one and two-tenths seconds, then came from behind in the final curve to win the 800 in 2:27.4. She also ran a leg on the winning 4x400 relay.Melissa Borgen easily won the 100-meter high hurdles in 16.8 and finished a close second in the 300 lows in 48.9 in her first competition since a knee injury that required stitches. Galloway (10:13.4), Andy Reese (10:39.8) and Max Gordon (10:47.2) went 2-3-4 in the 3200.Port Townsend's Kolby Riley recorded excellent times in the 200 (22.6) and 400 (50.1) as he defeated Bainbridge star Luke Preble (23.3, 51.4). Preble anchored both relays.Other Spartan highlights:* Alice Russell won the shot (33-1) and discus (85-10) and finished third in the javelin (71-3).* Triple winner Joey Mankes led a Spartan sweep in the high jump (5-7), triple jumped 40-7 and long jumped 17-7 1/2.
