"Beam, Carmel shine for raqueteers"

"Bainbridge's depth was too much for Bremerton's strength at the top, as the Spartan netters dropped the Knights 7-2 Wednesday.Elliott Beam, the number two boys' singles player, maintained his unbeaten league record with a 6-2, 6-0 win. The sophomore has not lost a set in Olympic League play this year. You can pick up a lot of points with a strong number-two player, coach Mike Anderson said. Beam's counterpart, Kristen Carmel, also won, taking a hard-fought match 6-4, 6-4.For a change, Bainbridge's top singles players needed the help. Erik Hansen bowed 6-1, 7-5, his first league loss. Jessica Antilla started strong, but dropped a three-set match 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.The boys' doubles team of Willie Storch and Sam Marshall won 6-1, 6-4, while the girls' team of Sara Suffis and Anna-Lisa Brieland won 6-2, 6-3, and the mixed-doubles team of Chris Benz and Sandy Eckel won 6-2, 6-2.The win advances the Sparts' season record to 7-1. The Spartan JV team claimed a 7-0 win against Bremerton Thursday. Bainbridge winners were Maggie Fick, Amanda Johncock, Jake Kanev and Danny Steyer in singles, and doubles teams of Suzanne Fossum/Alex Riede, Blake Bodnar/Trenton Gibbons and Chloe Slichter/Brandon Weiss."
