Spartan girls crush Nathan Hale

January 18, 2013 · 10:59 AM

The Spartans scored more in the first quarter than the Raiders did in the first half as Bainbridge battered Nathan Hale 60-27 in Metro League girls basketball Wednesday.

The Spartans sprinted to a 14-4 lead at the end of the quarter and built a 24-8 advantage going into halftime.

Bainbridge put the game well out of reach in the third stanza with a 21-point quarter.

The big home win was a welcome rebound from the Spartans’ two-game losing skid that started late last week. With the victory, Bainbridge improved to 6-4 in the Metro League (9-5 overall).

Grace Kenyon, who is second in the league in scoring with 16.5 points per game, led all scorers. She finished with 25 points.

Seven other Spartans scored in the contest.

Sydney Severson added 15 points for Bainbridge, and Kate Usellis and Maddie Ketcheside had four points each. Emilie Miller, Paige Brigham, Julie Feikes and Sydney Gibbs contributed three points each.

Amadara Oguara paced Nathan Hale with nine points.

The Spartans again take the home court Friday, as the team welcomes Holy Names Academy to BHS in a double-header with the boys squad.

Tipoff for the varsity girls game is 8 p.m.

The Spartan boys play O’Dea. Tipoff is at 6:15 p.m.
