The Review caught up with a few of 2012’s outstanding Spartans to find out their favorite sports memories of the past year.
Baseball: “Comeback win against West Seattle, score: 3-2. Key hits came during that game that helped us win and showed our ability to fight back and to always give 100 percent.”
— Will Houser, BHS senior
Rowing: “My all-time favorite sports memory is hands-down going to the Youth National Rowing Championships in Tennessee and placing seventh over all in the nation. We worked so hard to get there and gave it our all!”
— Katrina Kerrigan, BHS senior
Volleyball: “A great volleyball memory was beating Lakeside on senior night and being first in the Metro Mountain Division.”
— Lauren Sheehan, BHS junior
Football: “Homecoming game. We were down at halftime. Rallied in the second half behind Matt Stone and came back to win against an undefeated Blanchet team. Electric atmosphere.”
Baseball: “A week prior we had lost to Blanchet on the road via a walk-off hit. They came to our field and we beat them in every aspect of the game, the score was 5-0 on a beautiful Friday afternoon. Exciting game, great atmosphere.”
— Paimon Jaberi, BHS senior
Soccer: “The fact that we won the Mountain Metro Division, were the most cohesive girls soccer team in years and made it to the first round of state! It was a great season!”
— Sarah Berschinski, BHS senior
Cross country: “Boys XC to state for the second time in school history and first time since 1995!”
— Tyler Cox, BHS senior
Lacrosse: “Best memory was the excited anticipation in the locker room before the girls lacrosse state championship. Knowing it was our goal to play in that game since preseason, it was an incredible moment and truly an honor to be part of that team representing BIGL.”
— Sallie Marx, BHS junior
Cross country: “Watching the girls cross country team finish districts together, faster and stronger than ever before!”
— Sam Scott, BHS senior
Soccer: “Winning the state championship in soccer. Our team had great chemistry and was a really great to be a part of. It was a really great year for Bainbridge High School soccer.”
— Michael Crowley, BHS senior
Lacrosse: “It was incredible pulling a repeat this year and winning the 2012 Washington State Girls Lacrosse Championship, but my favorite memory was the final playoff game that sent us into the championship game. This was the last time our six seniors would ever play on our home field, and I couldn’t have imagined a better final game. Start to finish, end line to end line, it’s one I will always smile about.”
— Kelsey Mackin, BHS Class of 2012
Rowing: “One of the best times I ever had involving crew was when me and several other guys on the team organized a pre-regatta camp out. Crew does a great job of building a strong family-like bond between teammates.”
— Jesse Rosenthal, BHS senior
Basketball: “The overall feeling of unity and togetherness that comes with being part of a team.”
— Nancy Karreman, BHS junior
