O’Dea escapes with wrestling win

The Fighting Irish emerged on top in a close scrap against the Spartans in Metro League wrestling late last week in Seattle.

O’Dea beat Bainbridge 40-30, thanks in large part to wins in the heavyweight classes.

Both teams failed to field competitors and started the match with a double forfeit in the 106-pound weight class.

The Irish then claimed the victory, with Korry Broderick (113-pound class) taking a forfeit win.

Bainbridge’s Jonathan Gallivan (120) got the Spartans off to a solid start with a pin of Corbin Benson in 4:41.

O’Dea’s Scott Rohlinger (126) answered with a 59-second pin of Chaney Weaver.

In the 132-pound class, Jack Miller of Bainbridge pinned Kallum Broderick in 5:19.

Sam Bell (138) of O’Dea pinned Christian VanWagner in 1:16.

Dylan Read (145) of Bainbridge battled Nate Turner and won in a 12-9 decision.

Fellow Spartan Alex Hoover (152) then pinned Tristan Mohn in 1:58.

O’Dea followed with a win by Trenton Tibbits (160) in a 14-2 major decision against Joaquin Gurza

Bryce MacDonald (170) of Bainbridge then notched a 7-3 decision against Logan Flones.

Bainbridge’s Tyler Moniz (182) won by forfeit.

O’Dea finished out the match with three wins.

Jordan Allen (195) pinned John Zhang in 1:25; Ian Blair (220) pinned Billy Schnase in 5:30; and Montique Edwards (285) won by forfeit.
